As some of you may be aware the Club has applied for planning permission for the “change of use” of our car park to allow us to rent spaces to companies on Globe Park. The application was submitted on 10th May. The commercial usage will be during day times mid week, and so there will be no impact on the Club operations at evening or weekends. Potential users of the car park include Club sponsors and Corporate members.
The primary reason for the Club doing this is to create a significant new revenue stream for the Club that would provide sufficient funds for transformative changes in facilities to support the Clubs development into the future. These kind of opportunities come along once in a generation. If the Club is successful in this venture, all sections will be engaged in a long term planning process to determine how the funds would be best invested.
As part of planning consultations we have met with and written to local residents who live on the approach roads, including Gossmore Lane, Lock Road and Riverpark Drive. Some have raised concerns about safety and congestion on these roads and the negative impact. We have listed to and adapted our application to try and mitigate some of these concerns. Our application addresses the primary objections including the need for the initiative (a total of 600 off street spaces are required on Globe Park and current schemes at planning stages only provide 250) and that moving cars parked dangerously on street (including on the bend on the road to the Club) into off street parking should reduce congestion.
As ever it will be those who view this change negatively who are most vocal. We are asking members of the Club who are resident on those roads and supportive of the application to please register that support. We are also asking all members and other stakeholders to register their support so that the planning authorities can make a balanced assessment of the application.
Your can register your support in two ways, by emailing the case officer at email@example.com quoting reference 18/06215/FUL Marlow Rugby Club or by logging onto the planning portal at the below link. You may need to register to do so.
Please do so by Friday 15th June.
The success of this scheme will really make a massive difference to Marlow Rugby Club and everyone who uses it, so please give it your support.
