OBB lge1 - rescheduled Marlow v Maidenhead

A local derby. School rivalries. Previous clubs. So guess what? A massively committed and pretty feisty affair.

HUGE effort and 70mins commitment from our squad in an attritional game. Injured Sam and Josh there to support, along with the WAGS.

Starting against the breeze (cheers, Freya) Marlow carried hard and looked after the ball well, and enjoyed good amounts of possession. On occasions we got beaten to support the carrier and had penalties against us, but they were too. They were guilty of offside and a few high tackles too.
With sustained pressure, we opted for an easy 3pts in centre field.
They would come back and score out wide, but failed to convert 5-3.
From another attack we opted for a tap, and Travis squirmed and ‘scored’ whilst on his back, but the ref didnt see it from his side (we all did) and Maidenhead broke away.
Defence was immense, though at a cost as one clash of heads (kyran and Olle frisby both on a cover tackle.) saw both leave the field for hospital treatment. (Cut and nose broken/concussed). Matt Worman too lost as his collar bone popped.
We wish all 3 speedy recoveries.
Maidenhead would score 2 more for 15-3 at HT.
With major reshuffles at centre and wing, we battled on. Travis, Harry fryer and Will Wright epitomizing the effort, all gladiatorial.
Maidenhead (as is traditional) were undisciplined, and eventually their captain lost the patience of the ref and was yellow carded.
In one break out, Maidenhead’s left winger skipped through cover tackles to score. Con again missed, 20-3.
We deserved far more, and showing great courage, commitment and belief, worked the ball wide right for Ollie Kemp to crash over as the defence game in. (Ollie came to us from Maidenhead at start of season, and is loving his rugby with us!) Freddie added the touchline conversion from wide right. 10-20.
And we kept going; though we got undone with some smart offloading up the middle for a acore under the posts. Extras added 10-27
Deservedly we would have last score, Cam sniping a few times previously, but from 5m out, bounced and barreled to crash over. Extras again added, this time from wide left. 17-27 and full time.

WHAT. A. PERFORMANCE.

Attritional yes! Proud, you bet!

Coach Dan was of high praise, stating it was best fronting up performance of year, and probably of his 2 years with academy. Boys became men.
