It is with great sadness that the Rugby Club announces the death of Michael (Micky) Lewins. Michael passed away last Sunday 9th November after a long and protracted battle with Parkinsons Disease.
Michael, as many of the more senior members will remember, was for many years the "heart and soul" of Marlow Rugby Club. In nearly 50 years as a member of Marlow, he first played for a variety of teams, and then when he hung up his boots, he joined the main committee to help with the administration and operation of the rugby club. He served on various committees, and then he was invited to become chairman, a role he fullfilled for many years with honour and integrity.
As a thank-you for all his lifetime of service to the club, they bestowed on him the highest accolade that they could provide, and he was awarded the title of Honorary Life Member, a exclusive group of fewer than 30 people who have been given this designation since the founding of Marlow Rugby Club in 1947.
Michael was more than just someone who helped out, he was a wonderful, warm and funny man. He was a great tourist, as many of you will verify. He was at his happiest when having a laugh and a beer with his friends at the club.
He will be sorely missed, but the memories that he has left behind will live with all of us forever.
