As we kick off 2026, I wanted to share a little about what’s been happening behind the scenes at the club. I’m John Haddock, and at the last AGM I took on the role of Director of Strategy and Development. The strategy part of this role is to look at where we are now and confirm where we want to be in the future - good progress has been made on this over the last few months and I aim to share further details with you in the coming months. The Development part of the role is to establish a framework to deliver sustainable change to realise the club strategy; it's in this area that I'd like to share some key updates below.

Your ideas matter!

There are lots of ways we can grow and improve the club, but the best ideas often come from our members. To make sure we capture everyone’s thoughts, I’ve created an Idea Form where you can share any suggestions - big or small, quick wins or longer-term projects. Once we’ve gathered these Ideas, we’ll review them and create Initiatives for the ones that fit with our strategy, are achievable and will make the biggest impact.

Volunteers make it happen

We are lucky to have so many people already giving their time to the club, and we couldn’t do what we do without you. But as we look to the future, we will need additional help with roles beyond the pitch - things that keep the club running smoothly and allow us to grow. For every new Initiative we take forward, we’ll need people to help deliver it and make sure it becomes part of our day-to-day operations.

To make this easier, I’ve set up a Volunteer Form where you can tell us about your skills, availability, and interests. This way, we can match volunteers to Initiatives that excite them. We'll also share new Initiatives with the membership, so that you’ll have the chance to put your hand up and help deliver something that matters to both you and the club.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering isn’t just good for the club - it can be great for you too. It’s a chance to make a real difference, meet new people, and even build experience that looks fantastic on your CV. It’s not just for parents or former players either - young people starting their careers can gain hands-on experience and responsibility by helping shape an organisation with almost 1,000 members.

If this sounds interesting, please get involved! Whether you have an idea, want to volunteer, or just want to learn more, we’d love to hear from you. You can reach me anytime at strategy@marlowrugby.co.uk.

Thank you for everything you do to make Marlow Rugby Club such a special place. Here’s to an exciting year ahead!
