Touch Rugby is a mixed sport, with ladies as important (if not more important) than men! The growth in the sport since the launch has been rapid, with the emphasis firmly on improving your fitness whilst having fun.

We run weekly sessions run all year round with a few hardy souls playing through the winter months. Now the clocks have gone forward, and the evenings are getting lighter, it’s a great chance to come along and meet some new faces, or have a run around with some old friends.

Since we started Touch Rugby at Marlow RUFC in 2013, in addition to the active players already at our club we have been successful in attracting new players for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Those who have never played any form of rugby before but have always fancied “giving it a go”
  • Those who have played Touch Rugby before elsewhere and have moved to the Marlow area
  • Those who have played full contact rugby before but for one reason or another have stopped
  • Parents of Age Group players who want to have a run around without the kids

The game itself, as those who have played it will testify, is simple to pick up but great in terms of fitness. The constant movement during games means that without realising it you are covering a lot of ground over the course of the session. As with every sport, of course, there are tricks and tactics to learn and so we help get new joiners up to speed. And, of course, the bar is open afterwards to go over the finer points 😊

Our annual summer league is due to kick off in early June, so now is the perfect time to get down to the club and try it out, as there will be extra coaching aimed at bringing players of all abilities up to speed with the way Touch is played.

So why not come along to one of our sessions on Wednesday (from 7.30pm to 9pm). If you have any queries then please feel free to contact me at marlowtouchrugby@gmail.com.

Hope to see you there!

Director of Touch Rugby
